María Lourdes Lorenzo García

Full Professor in the Department of Translation and Linguistics at the University of Vigo and European PhD in Translation (1999). Since its foundation in 1999, she has been a member of the board of directors of ANILIJ (National Association of Research in Children’s and Young Adult Literature). Her research focuses on the translation of children’s and young adult literature, audiovisual translation, and accessibility to audiovisual products (subtitling for the deaf, audio description for the blind, and Easy-to-Read adaptations for people with cognitive disabilities).

She has published more than 100 research papers in books and specialized journals, is co-editor of AILIJ, and has participated (as principal investigator or team member) in 23 research projects with regional, national, or European funding. She is a member of the “TALES, Translation, Accessibility, Literature & Screen” research group (“excellence” seal 2006) and has 6 consolidated sections of curricular excellence (Xunta de Galicia). She is a collaborator of the Galician Accessibility Observatory (GALMA) and external advisor to the EST Young Scholar Committee of the European Society for Translation.

She is an article referee in several specialized journals (META, Translation & Interpreting, Monti, Sendebar, Trans, Communication & Society, Malasartes, Perspectives, Revista Española de Discapacidad (REDIS), inTRAlinea, Boletín Galego de Literatura, ELOS, Journal of Audiovisual Translation…) and for several publishers (Peter Lang, Universitat Jaume I…).

Member of the Expert Bank of the State Research Agency (EVALÚA Program). Member of the Evaluation Commission in 31 doctoral theses and the scientific committee of several conferences, the technical committee 153 of Communication Aids (State Secretariat of Telecommunications and for the Information Society; UNE 153010 Standard Subtitling for the Deaf), the technical committee JC1 ISO SC35 (UNE 153020 Standard Audio Description for the Blind), and member for the AENOR expert network (UNE standards) CTN-UNE 153/SC 5 “Communication Aids”.
