Portfolio of services
It is planned to develop a portfolio of services of interest to the academic environment, society and Galician, Spanish and international industry, based on the actions already underway, implemented by the researchers involved in iLingua and linked to the lines of its scientific agenda.
Line 1. Internal linguistics and linguistic variation:
– scientific advice on grammar, phonetics and lexicon of Galician, Spanish, English, etc.
– linguistic editing of texts and oral and written academic communication
– modeling linguistic factors in contexts of language variation
– research consultancy in the field of historical sociolinguistics
Line 2. Society, ideology and language policy:
– sociolinguistics of the Galician, Spanish, “new English” context, etc.
– design of citizen science materials and projects to promote the coexistence of languages in their territories.
– advising administrations on policies related to linguistic rights and on normalization actions in minority contexts
– linguistic evaluation of cultural projects
– studies and analyses on linguistic minorities for the implementation of language recovery strategies
– design of linguistic internationalization plans: virtual exchange, internationalization of contents, interculturality
Line 3. Languages, cognition and education:
– advice on the functioning of the bilingual mind, on how to learn and teach a second language
– study and implementation of teaching innovation strategies in the field of second language teaching
– combination of corpus and experimental methods in the study of monolingual and multilingual grammars
– advice on ethical issues in multilingualism studies in different communities
Line 4. Translation and interpretation:
– development of multilingual online resources for different types of users (especially in the biomedical field)
– translation of texts for specific social demands (e.g. patients’ associations, tourism organizations)
– training for translation and interpreting professionals in specialized fields (judicial, police, health, social, educational, business, etc.)
– quality control of translations (literary and audiovisual), adaptations, subtitling and audiovisual translation; development of protocols and tools for the pursuit of quality in translation
– design of best practice plans in interpreter-mediated communication
– video game translation
– literary translation (especially of children’s and young people’s literature)
– audio descriptions
– didactic designs for learning to interpret; projects that combine advances in psychology and sociology with the interpreter’s professional practice
Line 5. Language and literature:
– reliable text editions on widely distributed platforms
– literary editing of texts
– proofreading, editorial proofreading
– attribution reports
– collaborations with companies in advertising work based on literary materials
– works for the recovery of the cultural and literary corpus
– adaptation of literary works to “easy reading”.
– advice on children’s and young people’s literature
– general training in literature: teacher updating, inclusive education
Line 6. Language and accessibility: media accessibility and sign language:
– advice and training in media accessibility: live transcription and subtitling (public, private, international); subtitling for deaf people; audio description for blind people; adaptation of all types of texts to “easy reading”; automatic, semi-automatic and fully human methods
– accessibility consulting (for museums, libraries, educational centers)
– linguistic consultancy and research training in sign languages
Line 7. Digital humanities:
– consulting and training in corpus linguistics and corpus-based studies; training in computer resources: CQPweb, Teitok, XML, Oxygen, etc.
– lexical and computational neology advice
– compilation of corpora (monolingual, multilingual) and linguistic databases (design, editorial principles; written, oral)
– creation of dictionaries
