Iolanda Galanes Santos holds a PhD in Galician Philology from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (1999). She completed postgraduate studies at the Université Laval (Quebec) and has carried out postdoctoral stays at the Universidade de São Paulo (Observatório de Neologismos do Português Contemporâneo) and the Université de Montréal (Observatoire de Linguistique Sens-Texte). She has lectured at the Department of Translation and Linguistics of the Universidade de Vigo at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since 2000. Moreover, since 2008, she has received invitations to teach as a visiting lecturer at various foreign universities.
Dr. Galanes Santos’ lines of research include terminology in translation and literary translation. She has been a member of the research group BITRAGA (Online Catalogue of the Galician Translation) since its foundation in 2003. Her research activity currently focuses on creating terminological resources and exploring Galician literature translation flows (genres and authorships) and the relationship between translation and internationalisation. She has led research groups and participated in several I+D+i projects and international thematic networks, including XESCOM and REALITER. She acts as the Principal Investigator of the Terminology and Terminography research line in the BiFeGa group (a reference competitive group of the Xunta de Galicia).
Dr. Galanes Santos has authored and coauthored several collective volumes. For over thirty years, she has participated in international conferences and regularly publishes academic chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals and volumes edited by renowned publishing houses (Babel, Onomázein, Sendebar, John Benjamins, Springer, Gunter Narr, Peter Lang, among others). She has coauthored several international terminographical dictionaries (Office Québécois de la Langue Française, Ministère de la Culture de France, Translation Bureau de Canadá, TermCoord of the EU, among others). Furthermore, she has acted as a translator or external reviewer for dozens of publications. She was President of the Sociedade Galega de Terminoloxía (2005–2022), and has been a member of the scientific committee of Realiter (Red Panlatina de Terminología) since 2022. She is also a member of editorial boards and scientific committees of academic publications and international conferences.
