Senior lecturer in the Department of Translation and Linguistics at the Universidade de Vigo, PhD in English Philology from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1998), and Advanced Specialized Translator in English from Instituto Universitario de Lenguas Modernas y Traductores at the same university.
Her research areas include the translation of children’s and young adult literature and audiovisual translation, focussing on subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing, audio description for the blind, and easy-to-read adaptation. She has published numerous research studies and participated in competitively funded projects supported by European, national, regional, and private entities, either as a researcher -20 projects- or principal investigator -3 projects-.
She is the principal investigator of the research group Translation, Accessibility, Literature, and Screen (TALES) (Excellence Research Award by Galician government 2006). She collaborates with the Galician Observatory of Accessibility (GALMA), and she is also reviewer for several specialized journals, including MonTI, Ailij, Anales Cervantinos, Babel, Meta, REVLES, LFE, Trans, Translation & Interpreting, Hesperia, Quaderns, Research in Corpus Linguistics, JosTrans, InTRAlinea, among others.
Additionally, she is a member of the scientific committee for the TIBÓN Collection of Translation Studies, the editorial board of the translation journal MonTI, and various international conferences. She also serves as a spokesperson representing the Universidade de Vigo as an accessibility expert in the Technical Committee 153/SC 5 – Communication Aids (AENOR-UNE), contributing to the revision of UNE 153010 (Subtitling for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing), and UNE 153020 (Audio Description for the Visually Impaired).
