Regulations for the use of computer workstations

v1

The Lingua Research Institute (iLingua) offers collective work spaces to master’s and doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, visitors and teaching staff at its headquarters in the Faculty of Philology and Translation (FFT), Newton Building, 2nd floor, room 9. Room 9 has 15 individual workstations, 12 of them equipped with desktop computers connected to the UVigo network via Ethernet protocol. In this space, users can use laptops or tablets and establish connections to the UVigo Wi-Fi network, for which it is necessary to have uvigo.gal , uvigo.es or Eduroam-compatible accounts.

Access

Users must be previously registered by the research staff linked to iLingua using the form: https://forms.gle/6BmBFSGJahrawHSm6

They will collect the room keys from the FFT concierge.

Use

· The use of the workstations will be for exclusively academic purposes. Use for any other purpose (leisure, commercial, criminal, etc.) may result in temporary or permanent loss of the right to use, in addition to the sanctions on the user or users provided for by current legislation. Users are responsible for the correct use of the programs and computer equipment (avoiding incorrect use of the material, reproduction and installation of illegal copies, etc.). At all times, the facilities must be respected and used in accordance with these rules, those of the FFT as well as the general rules of the University.

· Users may use their USB devices, provided that they check that they are not infected with viruses at the beginning and end of the work session.

· On desktop computer stations, users will use the ‘iliunga’ profile, which will give access to a specific folder on the local hard drive. Saving documents on the local disk will be avoided, so the use of cloud spaces is recommended (for example, Microsoft Office365 and/or OneDrive, associated with uvigo.gal accounts). Since the computer stations are public equipment for shared and temporary use, with no expectation of privacy, the items saved in the ‘User’ profile folder will be deleted periodically.

· Installing software on desktop computers is not allowed. Software installation can be requested by emailing ilingua@uvigo.gal , indicating the number of the IT workstation.

· The use of material means and complementary supports in iLingua spaces is subject to the guidelines that apply in other areas of the UVigo.

· If any case of intentional misuse, absence of office software, etc. is detected, the user must communicate it to iLingua as soon as possible.

Printing

As a general rule, rational, efficient and considered use should be made of document printing.

Sanctioning procedure

The management and the Board of Directors of iLingua will agree on the sanctions that apply in the event of non-compliance with these regulations.

The management of iLingua may agree to suspend any of the services mentioned due to technical difficulties, space or staff availability.
