Verónica Silva Folgar

I hold a BA in Foreign Languages (2024) and an MA in Advanced English Studies (2025) with a specialisation in English Linguistics, both from the Universidade de Vigo. I am currently a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Elena Seoane (Universidade de Vigo) and Prof. Lucía Loureiro-Porto (Universitat de les Illes Balears). My research focuses on non-categorical variation between that and zero complementisers in Gibraltar English. I am also compiling the Spoken Corpus of Gibraltar English (SGibE), a corpus of spontaneous speech designed to analyse language contact and variation in the Gibraltarian context. In the past, I have examined cases of insertion of Spanish grammatical markers in Gibraltar English clauses.

I am a member of the research group Linguistic Variation and Textual Categorisation (LVTC), the project Variation in English Worldwide (ViEW), and the working team of the research project Morphosyntactic Variation in World Englishes: Exploring Gibraltar English in Context, for which I compile the SGibE.
