José María García-Miguel Gallego

Hello, I am José García-Miguel, a professor of General Linguistics at the Faculty of Philology and Translation at the University of Vigo.

My main research interests focus on the syntax and semantics of languages. I am interested in syntax from at least three points of view: first, from a cognitive-functional point of view, to find out how syntax contributes to the conceptualization of reality; second, from a typological point of view, which are the different strategies that the languages of the world (including sign languages) can use to syntactically organize ideas. Third, and above all, I am interested in an empirical approach to languages and therefore most of my research work is related to the compilation of databases and the syntactic annotation of textual corpora of Spanish and, to a lesser extent, of Spanish sign language. Currently, I would like to advance in the automation of syntactic annotation processes while improving the quality of the analysis.
