Ana Elina Martínez Insua

Ana Elina Martinez-Insua holds an MA in English Philology from the University of Santiago de Compostela (1997). She obtained her PhD in English Linguistics in 2003, with a thesis supervised by Prof. Ignacio M. Palacios-Martinez, on existential There – constructions in written and spoken English. In July 2009 she obtained a permanent position as Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the University of Vigo, where she is a member of the Language Variation and Textual Categorisation research group. She has been part of the organising committees of several (inter)national conferences, including the First International Workshop on the Structure of the Noun Phrase in English, the 7th Biennial International Conference on the Linguistics of Contemporary English (BICLCE), the 32nd European Systemic Functional Linguistics Conference or ICAME45, among others.

In terms of university management, Ana Elina served as Vice-dean for International Relations (2008-2015) and coordinates the Foreign Languages module of the MA in Teacher Training at the University of Vigo (2012-), where she teaches the seminar Teaching Innovation Strategies for the Foreign Language Classroom.

Ana Elina’s research interests are the Systemic Functional approach to English; the system of Theme-Rheme and the Systemic Functional approach to the textual metafunction; English as L1 and L2; foreign language teaching-learning, and teaching innovation.
