Ana Hermida Ruibal

Ana Hermida Ruibal holds a degree in Translation and Interpreting from the University of Vigo. She is a sworn translator/interpreter (Galician-English-Galician) appointed by the Xunta de Galicia, holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) in Translation and Paratranslation, and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training, and Language Teaching, also from the University of Vigo.
She has been working as a translator since 1998: for 15 years as a founding partner of a translation company in Portugal — where she carried out tasks in translation, revision, and multilingual project coordination — and later as a freelancer based in Galicia. In 2003–2004, she was part of the team responsible for the localization of Windows XP and Office 2003 software into Galician and, for six years, served as an LQS Language Specialist and Terminologist for Microsoft projects. Her working languages are Portuguese, Spanish, Galician, and English.
During her 13-year stay in Lisbon, she taught Portuguese-Spanish translation in the Annual and Summer Courses for Foreign Translators of Portuguese at the University of Lisbon. Upon returning to Galicia, she began teaching Portuguese language courses at the University of Vigo and at the Centro de Linguas of the University of Vigo / Instituto Camões in Vigo. She has also been teaching in the undergraduate Translation and Interpreting program and the Master’s in Translation for International Communication at the University of Vigo for several years.
Her research interests include the professional aspects of translation, Portuguese-Spanish-Portuguese and Portuguese-Galician-Portuguese translation, Portuguese as a Foreign Language teaching, and computer applications for translation.
She is currently a board member of AGPTI, also a member of APTRAD, Asetrad, APT, AIETI, and DPG, and she is a PhD candidate in the Translation and Paratranslation program at the University of Vigo.
