Ana María Iglesias Álvarez

Researcher focused on the field of sociolinguistics and, in the first part of her career, specifically on the study of linguistic attitudes towards the situation of Galician as a minority language, and the measures taken to achieve its normalisation. The most significant result of this was the publication of the book Falar galego: ‘no veo por que?’ (Speaking Galician: ‘Why Should I?’), as well as articles published in influential journals such as Verba and Estudios de Sociolingüística (Sociolinguistic Studies).  The second project focused on studying the attitudes of adolescents towards linguistic diversity, towards both the Spanish spoken in Galicia and Galician, a project which also resulted in articles being published in influential journals such as Estudos de lingüística galega (Galician Linguistic Studies) and Revista Galega de Filoloxía (Galician Journal of Philology). Finally, following participation in the project entitled La evolución intergeneracional de las bilingüizaciones, contextos, mantenimiento y sustitución lingüísticos (The intergenerational evolution of bilingualisations, contexts, language maintenance and substitution) (Reference:  FFI2015-64459-P), several articles have recently appeared in indexed journals in the field of Family Language Policy. This research activity was accompanied by teaching, first in secondary and university education (as an associate lecturer at the University of Vigo) and then, from the 2014-2015 academic year to the present, as a full-time lecturer (appointed doctorate), also at the University of Vigo (Department of Galician and Latin Philology).
